Architectural Walking Tours of Santa Barbara

Posted on  August 20, 2013

Santa Barbara’s unique architecture is a can’t miss attraction for anyone visiting the city. One of the best ways to enjoy the historic buildings of Santa Barbara is through the Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara’s Walking Tours.

The foundation’s weekly tours are lead by museum docents. These experts provide historical commentary while leading guests through the city’s architectural hot spots.

The walking tours are split into two versions, a Saturday Sabado tour and a Sunday Domingo tour. Each tour focuses on a different part of the city.

The Sabado tour features Spanish influence in Santa Barbara. It begins on the steps at City Hall at De la Guerra Plaza and some of its highlights include the Lobero Theatre, Meridian Studios and the Masonic building, and much more. The Domingo tour leaves from the downtown public library. It explores downtownSanta Barbara’s architecture, and the influence the 1925 earthquake had on the city.  La Arcada, Granada Theatre, and Trinity Episcopal Church are just a few of the main attraction on this route.

Weather permitting, both tours run weekly beginning at 10am and lasting until noon.

Be sure to bring walking shoes, sunscreen and cameras to make your experience more enjoyable  It also states that strollers are prohibited. Admission is a $10 donation for anyone over the age of 12. Children are welcome, but strollers are prohibited.  Large group tours are available but should be scheduled two weeks in advance.
