Thanks in part to shows like Dancing with the Stars. Ballroom dancing has reached a surprising level of popularity in the U.S. Non-star dancers however don’t have the luxury of being called to dance with a professional partner on national television. They have to seek out other competition venues. Luckily for anyone visiting Santa Barbara November 2013 marks the inaugural year of Beach Ball at UCSB.
What is the Event?
Beach Ball at UCSB is a dance competition that will showcase a wide variety of skill levels and styles to appeal to dancers and spectators alike. 2013 marks the first iteration of this event that will hopefully become an annual tradition. Like the name implies it will take place at the University of California , Santa Barbara campus at the Robertson Gymnasium.
The competition will feature a range of skill levels from Green, dancers who have less than 3 months of experience and have never competed before, all the way to Championship, dancers who have plenty of competitive experience. A complete listing of skill level categories is available with descriptions on the event’s website! Both dance couples and formation teams can compete.
If you are interested in participating in the event you can get early registration forms online. Early Registration ends October 19th and a $10 will be added to the registration fee after that date. Normal entry fees cost $30 for individual unlimited competition and $15 for single nightclub competitors. For more information on registration head over to Uscbbeachball.com.
Styles represented at the competition will include American Smooth, International Standard, American Rhythm, International Latin, and Nightclub.
If you are interested in only watching the competition, admission is $15 for general seating and $25 for front row seating. There will also be a Professional Dance Showcase featuring Victor Fung & Anastasia Muravyeva that will probably be worth the price of admission alone! Donations to the competition are welcome as well.
Put on your dancing shoes and mark your calendar for November 9th for a full day of ball room dancing entertainment!
Dates: All day November 9th
Admission: Competitors $30/$15, Spectators $5/$15/$25
