Boisterous Boystown: Northalsted Market Days

Posted on  July 25, 2017

Boystown will come alive for the 2017 Northalsted Market Days. Now in it’s 36th year, this massive outdoor street festival is the largest in the Midwest and promises to be bigger and better than ever! LGBTQIA-friendly, Market Days is under the auspices of the Northalsted Business Alliance, whose goal is to keep the businesses and people in the neighborhood safe and prosperous. They’re not afraid to be loud and proud, and Market Days is no different!

Tremendous Tunes

Five stages. Over 40 local and national music acts. One amazing weekend. With this many bands, there truly is something to suit everyone’s musical taste. Featuring sounds from the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus, Steve Grand, Prince Poppycock, and many more, you won’t want to miss a single set. See the robust lineup here!

Food, Drink, & Everything in Between

More than 400 vendors will converge on the 6 city blocks that make up the Northalsted Market Days. Some of the best food in the greater Chicago area can be found here! Keep hydrated by visiting the beer tents that are strewn throughout the event. Restaurants and bars along Belmont and Addison will also be open during the festivities if you’re looking for a respite from all fun outside.

Market Days also boasts local and regional arts & craft vendors selling handmade and unique products. Peruse the artist marketplace to find a treasure to remind you of Boystown for years to come. Community organizations will also have a presence at the festival and at their tents you can find giveaways, contests, activities, and merchandise for sale.

Don’t forget to bring the whole crew! For the majority of the day, this event is family friendly, even for your furry family members. Both pups and kids are more than welcome to participate in the fun throughout the weekend, however, evening activities may be better suited to older kids and adults.

Parking Plan

With an event this large, it is inevitable that several streets will need to be closed. Halsted Street between Belmont Avenue and Addison Street will close at midnight on Saturday, August 12 in preparation for the festivities. The following streets will have restricted parking: W Melrose, W Aldine, W Buckingham, W Roscoe, W Newport, W Cornelia, and W Brompton. The parking garage at 3224 N Halsted Street will also be closed during the event.

City parking is not an easy task, but the good people at Northalsted Market Days have a solution- SpotHero! This parking reservation app allows you to book a parking spot in advance, at times 50% off the drive-up cost. Available for iPhone and Android, use the code NORTHALSTED for $5 off your first park.

Gear up for an event to remember! The food, drinks, and performances are sure to draw a huge crowd and is something you won’t want to miss.
