Bucktown Arts Fest

From the humble beginnings of four artists gathering to show their work in Holstein Park, Bucktown Arts Fest has grown to 200 artists and a weekend of fun, art, and community engagement. This free, volunteer-run festival is more than meets the eye because 100% of the proceeds benefit art programs in the Bucktown/Wicker Park neighborhoods. You can indulge in a weekend of fun and feel great about it!

An Array of Artists

Winding through the greenery of Holstein Park is beautiful on a normal day, but when you add in the original creations of of 200 artists and the sounds of live music in the air, the park becomes another world. Stroll down Oakley Avenue and Lyndale Street which are adjacent to the park and feature more than half of the artist booth spaces. The 2017 map is still in the works, but check out the 2016 map to get a lay of the land!

The artists represent a wide range of disciplines including ceramics, fibers/textiles, non-photography digital, jewelry, leather, metal, 2D mixed media, photography, painting, wood, sculpture, and printmaking. Even the most discerning taste will find something to take home from this eclectic array of art. Take a peek at the 2016 artist lineup in anticipation for the announcement for the 2017 list.

More Than Just Music

Not one, but two stages bring some of the best local music that Buckstown and Chicago have to offer. The Fest is unique in that it has one tent entirely devoted to jazz music! The New Roots Jazz Stage at the far end of Lyndale Street features a full lineup from 11:30am to 6:30pm on both days of the Fest. Carefully curated by neighborhood residents, the Jazz Stage is a community favorite.

Indie rock to blues and bluegrass, the Main Stage has it all! From 1pm to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday, local favorites will bring the tunes to keep you going throughout the day. In years past, the staged has been graced with a country harmony duo, an instrumental surf band, gypsy-carnival rock, and many other unique artists. You can expect a weekend of music as diverse as this for 2017. Keep your eye on the Bucktown Arts Fest Facebook page for the 2017 lineup announcement!

Bucktown Arts Fest Mission

An event this size doesn’t just spring out of the ground on its own. A dedicated army of volunteers works all year long to put together a festival that not only brings joy to those who attend it, but to countless Chicago school children. Bucktown Arts Fest helps to fund 10-week art programs for kids throughout the year that help them develop artistic and musical skills at Holstein Park. They also sponsor a summer camp for children ages 8-13 as well as make donations to local schools. None of the fest coordinators are paid, but rather make sure that every cent is put back into the community.

Whether you plan to visit the Bucktown Arts Fest because of a specific artist or performer, of if you’ll be attending just on whim there will be no shortage of fun and activities during this weekend!
