Chicago Pride

Posted on  May 22, 2017

What does the month of June, 750,000 people and the colors of the rainbow have in common? PRIDE! This June 17-18 and June 25, head to Chicago and celebrate Pride Month by attending one of the largest LGBT gatherings of the year, Chicago Pride Fest.

Chicago Pride Fest

This June 17-18, the annual Chicago Pride Fest will be returning to the city’s Boystown neighborhood with plenty of entertainment and celebrations! As a way to acknowledge and rejoice in the achievements of the LGBT Community, this massive two-day street festival invites performers from around the world and endless food vendors to entertain attendees throughout the weekend. Past performances have included St. Lucia, Debbie Gibson, Mya and Jennifer Hudson.

Pride Parade

Following the weekend of Pride Fest and continuing the LGBT celebrations, the 48th annual Chicago Pride Parade will step off of Montrose Avenue and Broadway in Uptown at 12pm on June 25. This vibrant parade marks the culmination of Pride Month and commemorates the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, a series of LGBT demonstrations against a New York City police raid in 1969. The Pride Parade truly captures the energy of Chicago’s LGBT community, drawing over 750,000 people that line the streets to cheer on the participants and enjoy the rich culture. If you’re looking for the most exciting viewing spots, head to the Boystown section of North Halsted Street, between Belmont Avenue and Grace Street. If you want to enjoy the show without the large crowd, head to the beginning of the route along Broadway between Montrose Avenue and Sheridan Road.

Tickets

While it is free to attend both Chicago Pride Fest and the Pride Parade, a voluntary donation will be requested at the entry gates of Chicago Pride Fest. All donations received will go back into the community towards local support programs.

Whether you want to join in celebration at Pride Fest, watch the Pride Parade or do both, you will need a place to stay! This June, look no further than the Willows Hotel. Conveniently located in Lincoln Park (right where the parade ends), guests can travel to and from the festivities without worrying about a 30-minute walk back to the hotel. Find your best pride attire and get ready to celebrate Chicago Pride!
