Chicago’s 176th Birthday Celebration

What’s a better way to celebrate Chicago’s birthday than going its the official birthday party?

 

Chicago may be turning 176 this year, but it still looks better than ever! Help celebrate the Windy City’s birthday at the official birthday party at The Chicago History Museum! Not only is everyone (locals and visitors alike) invited, Illinois residents will get a special birthday treat and free admission to the museum all day.

 

The celebration is filled with fun activities: musical performances from The Tony Do Rosario Trio and “Musicality,” an ensemble from Curie High School. There will also be a native drum interpretation of “Happy Birthday” by the American Indian Center, and according to Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events’ news release, the performance “will be an entertaining reminder that Chicago’s heritage goes back even further than its official establishment as a city 176 years ago.”

 

Guests can also enjoy children’s readings submitted to the annual essay contest in honor of Chicago’s first permanent resident, Jean Baptist Pointe DuSable.

 

And who doesn’t love free cake? Eli’s Cheesecake—who is one of the city’s culinary ambassadors—will be offering treats throughout the day.

 

Is your birthday March 4th, too? Those that share the same birthday will receive a special certificate and birthday cake (while supplies last).
