Christmas at the Castle

Posted on  November 29, 2012

Experience Hearst Castle as it might have been in the 1920s or 1930s

Ever wonder what it would have been like to celebrate Christmas in the golden era of the 1920s and 1930s? Well, now you can.

Every year, during the holiday season, Hearst Castle presents an opportunity for visitors to travel back in time and experience the Castle as it might have been back then. According to the Hearst Castle website, “Every December the staff…works hard to decorate the estate for the holidays, creating a special atmosphere that is sure to get you in the holiday spirit.”

While the main house and guest houses will be decorated for the holidays, the Castle doesn’t have a specific Christmas-themed tour. But The Grand Rooms Tour and the Evening Tour are great for visitors to see many of the decorated rooms.

“During the holidays, the Evening Tour program includes Living History Docents dressed in 1930s period clothing along with the holiday decorations in many of the rooms throughout the historic California Mansion,” the Hearst Castle website describes. “Two 18-foot Christmas trees fill the Assembly Room as the Living History Docents socialize before dinner.”

Don’t miss on this exciting holiday event that’s fun for the entire family! Weekend evening tours are difficult to reserve, but there also many evening tours available during the week the entire month of December. Reserve your spot today!
