Go for a Run: 2014 ASICS LA Marathon

Posted on  February 13, 2014

The Marathon is the rock-star of the distance running world. Part badge of courage, part way of life completing the 26.2 mile race is a major milestone in any runner’s career.

If you’re looking for a great marathon on the West-Coast, the The ASICS LA Marathon is a great choice. Named “Best Big City Race” by Runner’s World Magazine this 29 year old event has become a Los Angeles running tradition and is the largest marathon in California. Over 22,000 runners took part in 2013 and this year’s race is poised for a similar turnout!

One of the best aspects of the LA Marathon is the course itself known as the stadium to the sea course. Its scenic route begins at Dodger Stadium and finishes by the Santa Monica pier. The Pantages Theater, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Little Tokyo and Rodeo Drive are just a few of the numerous attractions runner’s will see as they make their way through the course.

Another nice aspect of the course is its slow elevation decline and few steep hills. Definitely a good race for those just starting!

Runners range from first-timers to seasoned veterans. Eric Mose of Kenya, ran a time of 2:09:43 to win last year’s race!

Marathon a bit too far for you?

If you’re not quite ready to run a marathon, the LA Big 5K is a great alternative.   The Big 5K takes place the day before the marathon and some runners even do  both. The LA Big 5K is a 3.1 mile run through Elysian park that has the excitement and atmosphere of a marathon event just not the distance.

You can register online for the 5k for $35 or register day-of for $40. The race will take place at 8am at Dodger stadium Parking Lot G. The Big 5K includes a T-shirt, a bib time, a finisher medal as well as an electronic finisher certificate.

Even if you aren’t a runner, the marathon and 5K both have great accommodations for spectators, and participants love support!
