Hearst Ranch Winery

Posted on  June 12, 2013

San Simeon has a number of unique attractions—from discovering the history of Hearst Castle to watching to elephant seals nestle along the beaches or relishing the charms of the quaint Cambria Village, nothing tops a beautiful day in San Simeon like a nice glass of wine.

Both visitors and locals alike love the hidden treasure located near William Hearst Memorial State Beach and Hearst Castle. Located across Highway 1 from the Hearst Castle Visitor Center inside historic Sebastian’s General Store, Hearst Ranch Winery’s tasting room gathers wine tasters from both near and far to enjoy vintages of Chardonnay, Rosé, Tempranillo, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Late Harvest Zinfandel and our Red Cuvée, White Cuvée and Barrel Select Cuvée Blends.

Founded by Steve Hearst and Jim Saunders, these wines are hand-harvested from Saunders Vineyard in Paso Robles, with grapes that embody the flavors, hues and aromas of Paso Robles, a now famous AVA (American Viticultural Area).

Sebastian’s General Store still serves as a café and general store to San Simeon tourists, campers and fishermen. However, over a period of time, it has expanded as the gathering place to sample the wines of Hearst Ranch Winery and enjoy café-style meals featuring Hearst Ranch Beef.

Blend the tastes of remarkable wines with the beautiful local attractions, and you will have the perfect day or weekend in San Simeon.

“The hand-crafted vintages of Hearst Ranch Wines have been brought to life by the collaboration of sound agricultural practices, impeccable winemaking and the philanthropic involvement of Steve Hearst and Jim Saunders. The fruit of California’s Central Coast vineyards is among the finest in the world. Blend in the talent of Winemaker Adam LaZarre and the vintages of Hearst Ranch Wines exhibit the excellence that is a testimony to the “Legacy of Quality™” that is synonymous with the Hearst tradition.”
