Watch the Santa Barbara Mission transform into 200 large-scale vibrant pieces of art!
If you’re a local looking for something to do on this long weekend or if you’re just visiting the Santa Barbara area, come celebrate the 27th Annual I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival, taking place all Memorial Day weekend at the plaza of the Old Mission.
For three days i madonnari, the Italian translation for street painters, transform the stone squares in front of the Santa Barbara Mission into vibrant, colorful, large-scale street paintings.
Not only is this festival a treat for the eyes, it’s also a treat for all the senses! There will be live music and an authentic Italian market, where visitors can enjoy a delicioso assortment of Italian foods and specialty items.
“We are proud to be the first to bring this romantic festival to the western hemisphere from our sister festival in Grazie di Curatone, Italy,” the I Madonnari Festival website said.
The street painting festival benefits the Children’s Creative Project, a nonprofit arts education program of the Santa Barbara County Education Office. The Project serves 50,000 children in more than 100 schools with visual and performing arts workshops and performances throughout the Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
Join the 25,000 visitors who attend this celebration of color and creativity.
