It’s Harvest Season in Napa Valley

Posted on  September 20, 2013

September begins harvest season in Napa valley wine country, which extends into October. This time of year is when wine makers begin picking and processing grapes and start the early stages of wine production. For anyone interested in wine, simply enjoying the hustle and bustle of the wineries this time of year along with the beautiful autumn weather is worth a trip by itself.

Many wineries have events this time of year to celebrate the season, making a trip to Napa valley even more enticing!

Here are a few harvest season events that are certainly worth checking out!

Grgich Hills Estate: Grape Stomping Bursting with Fun!

Guests get a hands-on (feet-on) experience at Grgich Hills Winery. Guests get to actually stomp grapes.

They also get an “I stomped at Grgich Hills” t-shirt which becomes quite personal because it’s tradition to step on the shirt with wine soaked feet after the stomping. Guests also get to taste 3 wines at the end of the day.

Date: This event is offered throughout the harvest season through October 31st.

Times: 10am to 4pm

Cost: $30

Location: Grgich Hills Estate 1829 St. Helena Highway Rutherford, CA

Contact: 707-963-2784

Bell Wine Cellars: Harvest Tour, Vineyard to Bottle

This event is self-described as the ABCs of winemaking. Guests get a first-hand look at every aspect of the process. They see the grapes being grown, taste juice that is fermenting and see grapes being pressed.

The tour even finished with a wine tasting paired with cheeses. It’s a great experience for a serious wine-enthusiast.

Date: Daily, by appointment

Time: 10:30

Cost: $60/ $30 for club members

Location: Bell Wine Cellars 6200 Washington St, Yountville, CA

Contact: 707- 944-1673

Castello di Amorosa: Pagan Ball

This event promises to be memorable; it’s got less to do with wineries than just having a good time. Head to Castello di Amorosa for their 6th annual Pagan Ball, which is pretty much what it sounds like, a costume party based around the original Pagan roots of Halloween.

Date: October 26th

Time: 8pm – midnight

Cost: $150.00

Location: 4045 North Saint Helena Highways, Calistoga CA 94515

Those three are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of events happening in Napa during the harvest season. It’s a great time to take a tour, do a tasting, or just enjoy some high quality wine.

Calistoga has a ton of nearby wineries to check out, but the entire Napa valley has a ton to offer!
