Meet Your Makers

Posted on  August 14, 2013

The growing move towards locally produced, sustainable goods is alive and well in Santa Barbara with Meet Your Makers, a collection of independent, environmentally conscious makers. It’s a market where independent sellers with shared values can sell to like–minded consumers. Officially the purpose of Meet Your Makers is “To provide a unique opportunity for savvy, conscious consumers to vote for causes and products they believe in and feel good about.”

A Maker can be anyone from a painter to a food producer, though the event tends to consist mostly of artists and artisans.

The Meet Your Makers events take place every Saturday on E. Cota St. between Anacapa St. and Santa Barbara St. through September 21st. The composition of the market changes from week to week, but the website provides a list of what Makers will be at the event for the upcoming week.

Besides bringing buyers and sellers together, MYM also often features classes and workshops where attendees can learn how to create things themselves.

Meet Your Makers is a refreshing break for anyone tired of the same old mass-produced, faceless brands and products that seem to be everywhere today.
