Fly kites with Otis students, alumni and special guests!

The skies are clear and the wind is just right—what else is there to do but fly a kite? Don’t have one? Skip the store—this experience will be way more fun. Otis College of Art and Design will be holding its Second Annual Kite Festival this Sunday, April 14th at Santa Monica Beach.

Headlining this day of family fun and art is world-renowned kite maker, Tom Van Sant along with a special kite performance by acclaimed kite-makers, Melanie Walker and George Peters. Other special guests include kite-makers and flyers, Robert Stanfield, Ron Gibian and Jose Sainz.

Children from the organizations Urban Compass, Junior Blind of America, Children’s Bureau and St. Jude’s hospital will be bussed to the beach to create and fly their own lightweight kites. Throughout the day, Otis students and alumni will join everyone for a fun-filled day of kite flying, kite designing, caricature drawing, sand castle building and face painting.

According to the school’s press release, this day was created to bring families and communities throughout Los Angeles together with Otis College of Art and Design.

“This is a fantastic event for the whole family,” Richard Shelton, Director of Integrated Learning at Otis College of Art and Design said. “Kids will have an opportunity to work on their own creation and watch some truly inspiring kits take to the skies.”
