Solvang Annual Christmas Tree Burn

Posted on  January 2, 2013

See this powerful spectacle ignite the New Year!

Sigh…the holidays are over. As much as we don’t want to, it’s time to take the holiday decorations down.

Did you chop down a real tree this for the living room this year? Please do not burn your tree at home—safely get rid of your tree by bringing it to the Solvang Annual Christmas Tree Burn—an annual event where Solvang residents and visitors haul their Christmas trees into a big burn pile.

The bonfire is sponsored by the City of Solvang Parks & Recreation Department and supervised by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department as one of the largest safety demonstrations and community gatherings on California’s Central Coast.

“The idea is to safely get rid of the trees and discourage someone from burning their tree at home,” David Sadecki, Santa Barbara County Fire Department, explained to KCET last year.

According to KCET, before the firefighters light the tree pile on fire, they do demonstrations to educate residents how fast a tree can catch fire and spread, especially when chemical treatments are applied.

All participants are invited to bring their trees—stands and ornaments must be removed—to the burn pile in the fields of Old Mission Santa Inés between January 1 and January 4, 2013., and then join together to witness this powerful spectacle ignite the New Year!
