2 More Reasons to Visit Chicago this Summer!

Chicago Dusk

If you’ve read the  Innformer before, you probably know there is no shortage of things to do in Chicago. However, if you’re still not convinced, here are two more events well worth a trip to The Windy-City this summer!

Northhalsted Market Days

Date: August 9-10

Time: 11am to 10pm

Location: Northalsted street between Belmont and Addison

Northhalsted Market Days is a two-day street festival with live music, a fun atmosphere and plenty of refreshments. But, market days is not your typical street festival, it’s actually the largest street festival in the Midwest, spanning 6 city blocks! This year it will feature over 40 musical artists on three stages along with nearly 300 food and craft vendors. Some of this year’s most popular performer will include: Belinda Carlisle, Neon Trees and Karmin.

Located in the Boystown neighborhood of Chicago, Market Days is also notable for attracting a large number of attendees from the local LGBT community. Over 100,000 total attendees are expected this year.

Admission to the festival is free, but there is an $8 suggested donation with benefits going towards the Northalsted Business Alliance. For more information visit chicagoevents.com

Ravinia

Date: Through September 20th

Time: Various

Location: Just north of Chicago at Highland Park,

Though it is technically the oldest outdoor music festival in the United States, calling Ravinia a “festival” is a little misleading. From the beginning of summer until the end of September Ravinia hosts a series of concerts at their outdoor venue every single day. A summer concert series might be a little more accurate!

Ravinia was first created in 1904 as an amusement park, with music just being one part of the entertainment. Since then music has turned into the main focus and over the last 100 years the festival has hosted such famous musicians as Louis Armstrong, Luciano Pavarotti, Frank Zappa, Willie Nelson, and Yo-Yo Ma as well as many more.
