Chicago’s Lunar New Year Parade

The year 2018 is here, or more commonly known among the Chinese culture, The Year of the Dog! Parade Details

Chicago’s annual Chinese Lunar New Year Parade will kick off at 1 p.m. on February 25, celebrating the Year of the Dog. With over 30,000 people in attendance each year, this parade is definitely one that most don’t want to miss! The parade will start at 24th Street and Wentworth Avenue and continue north up Wentworth to Cermak Road. For parade route details, click here. No matter where you stand along the route, expect to see marching bands, colorful floats, the traditional dancing lions and dragons, and of course dogs! Other Festivities   

While the parade is one of the more significant events of the New Year celebrations, Chicago will also be hosting a large variety of other festivities, beginning February 16 and ending March 4. On Saturday, Feb 17 the Chicago Symphony Center will be hosting a musical celebration with traditional Chinese costumes, choreography and opera. From February 25 through May 13, the Art Institute of Chicago will feature a selection of Chinese bronzes belonging to past emperors. Other events include a kickoff celebration in the Chicago Cultural Center on Friday, Feb 16 and celebrations at the Navy Pier, as well as Argyle Street, both on Saturday, Feb 24.
