It’s a fun-filled day at the beach to celebrate the ocean!

On Saturday, June 8th, communities across the globe will be celebrating International World Oceans Day, giving those an opportunity to learn more about our ocean and take action to help conserve it.

And in conjunction with International World Oceans Day, the Santa Barbara Ocean Festival will also be taking place to increase awareness and educate people about the incredible diversity of the ocean; protection of the water and marine life; and to promote the opportunities for those to enjoy recreation along the coast.

The Santa Barbara Ocean Festival is a fun-filled day for the entire family: live music, storytelling, marine education booths, an arts & crafts fair, bouncy houses and inflatables, a sand bar serving beer and wine and delicious food from local vendors! This will make a day at the beach to remember!

We love California for a number of reasons, but one of the main reasons is the nearness of the beautiful ocean. Come celebrate the great diversity of our ocean this weekend at the Santa Barbara Ocean Festival.

Can’t make it to the festival this Saturday? The Santa Barbara Ocean Festival’s website provided a list of things you can change in your life that will help the ocean:

  • Stop using single use plastic bags, and start using reusable cloth ones.
  • Drink from reusable water bottles.
  • Buy local and purchase organic.
  • Take shorter showers.
  • Reuse, not refuse! Dispose of garbage properly—on land or water.
  • Eat sustainable seafood.
  • Clean your house and yard with non-toxic products to keep them out of the waterways and oceans.
  • Scoop up after your dog to keep harmful pet waste out of storm drains.
  • Participate in beach clean-up days.
  • Donate your time, money and energy to supporting organizations that protect the oceans.

“…one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals die globally each year due to ingestion of or entanglement in plastics. Your help can save a life!”
