Santa Monica Rep Presents "A Christmas Carol"
Santa Monica Rep is proud to present A Christmas Carol at the Miles Memorial Playhouse. Spend a weekend by the beach highlighted by the Charles Dickens classic this December. Less than a mile from the playhouse, The Georgian is the perfect place to stay after the final curtain call.
A Christmas Carol was released as a book in 1843, and has not gone out of print since. The wildly popular story is based on experiences from Dickens’ glum childhood. He had a rocky relationship with his father growing up. His conflicting views led to inspire the character of Ebenezer Scrooge, who begins the story as a coldhearted and greedy man and ends it benevolent, spreading goodwill. Dickens spent much of his early years witnessing social injustices experienced by those living in poverty in London. He felt compassion for these people and used that inspiration to write A Christmas Carol. The uplifting tale made its way to stages across the world and now lives on as the quintessential Christmas play.
Directed by Jen Bloom, the revamped, highly theatrical production of the Dickens classic is sure to dazzle. Performances will begin December 1st and continue on through December 18th at the Miles Memorial Playhouse. After the show the celebration continues as audience members can sing carols and sip eggnog with the cast.
