If you’re a jazz fan, you know how much better it is live than recorded. Improvisation and artistic flair are so ingrained in jazz that recordings just don’t quite do it justice. Get your fill of live jazz music this August with Santa Monica’s “Jazz on the Lawn” concert series!

10th Annual Jazz on the Lawn Summer Concert Series

Organized by the Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Division, the Jazz on the Lawn summer concert series is a much loved local event which takes place every Sunday evening in August from 5-7pm at Stewart Street Park.

Various food trucks including dessert trucks are the main source of refreshments during the shows, but concertgoers are also welcome to bring their own food. It’s a good idea to pack chairs and blankets, as seating options are limited.

This year’s performers are a pretty interesting mix. While they all play some type of jazz music their styles and backgrounds vary wildly, everything from classic New Orleans Ragtime Jazz to funk and latin fusions will be performed.

Schedule:

8/2  Nate Birkey Quintet – a tribute to Miles Davis and Chet Baker
8/9  Estaire Godinez – A blend of Brazilian Latin, jazz and funk
8/16 Louie Cruz Beltran – Afro-Cuban rhythms with Latin jazz, pop and R&B
8/23 California Feetwarmers – Classic New Orleans, Ragtime Jazz
8/30 Brasil Brazil – Popular Brazilian music with a variety of styles & rhythms
