The Chicago International Film Festival Celebrates its 50th Year!

CIFF2

Everybody loves movies… Can you really argue with a statement like that? Movies transport, entertain, educate and even touch us emotionally. That’s why “Everybody loves movies” makes a perfect tagline for the Chicago International Film Festival!

50 Years of Excellence

2014 marks the 50th year of Chicago’s International Film Festival.  Since 1965 the festival has provided people in Chicago with the opportunity to experience films quite different than the typical Hollywood productions that dominate our movie theaters in America. It’s also the longest running competitive international film festival in North America!

This year’s festival runs from October 9th – October 23rd. It will take place primarily at the AMC River East 21, but select screenings and special events will also be held in different locations nearby.

Something for Everyone

The actual viewing portion of the festival consists of 150 films from 50 countries, with categories such as “Main Competition” where films will compete for the festival’s top prize of Gold Hugo and “New Directors” featuring directorial debuts. Other categories like “After Dark”, “Docufest” and “Spotlight Scandinavia” are just a few examples of how diverse this event is. Pick a category you find interesting or take a chance with a random film, either way you’re sure to have a great experience.

Some other events at the festival include question and answer panels, red carpet entries and after-parties. Directors, producers and actors will also be in attendance at some of the screenings as well.
