Where to See Holiday Lights in Monterey
Ready for the holiday season? If not, you will be once you visit Monterey! Throughout the city, we have festivities galore, including LOTS of opportunities to see Christmas lights! Visit Cannery Row on Nov 23 for their 24th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting. Or, watch as Monterey Bay lights up during their Brighten the Harbor Boat Parade (think: lots of boats, lots of lights). And if you’re traveling with kids, you’ll want to visit the nearby city of Seaside on Dec 7 for their Winter Wonderland and Tree Lighting. More details on all upcoming events below.
Cannery Row Holiday Tree Lighting
You might not find glistening snowfall and cold winter breezes in Monterey, but you will see plenty of holiday lights. Especially at Cannery Row’s 24th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting on Nov 23. The event kicks off at 4 p.m. in Steinbeck Plaza and will last until 9 p.m. Expect an evening packed with seasonal festivities, i.e. photos with Santa and his reindeer, Christmas carolers, décor, food and drink. The Tree Lighting Ceremony is the night’s main event and will happen at 5:45 p.m. sharp. Afterwards, take time to explore the many restaurants and shops along Cannery Row! The event is free and open to the public of all ages. Find more information at the Holiday Tree Lighting here.
Brighten the Harbor Boat Parade
When it comes to holiday lights, there are a few perks of being a town along the coast. And one of those perks happens to be the Brighten the Harbor Boat Parade. On Dec 2, the Monterey Bay Coastline will light up with a display of twinkling, floating color. At 5 p.m. decked-out boats will set sail, starting at Old Fisherman’s Wharf and turning around at Hopkins Point. During the parade you’ll see boats of all shapes and sizes, decorated in a variety of creative ways (here’s what they looked like last year). The parade is free to attend.
Seaside Winter Wonderland
Nothing gets better than a Winter Wonderland! On Dec 7 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., head on down to Seaside City Hall to take part in tons of holiday excitement. Located at 440 Harcourt Ave, this event is free and open to the public. Time for some family bonding anyone? While you’re there, you have the opportunity to ice skate, perform arts & crafts, play carnival games, take a horse-drawn hayride and even visit Santa!
